Senior Social Services

Senior Social Services assist individuals 60 and over who are at risk of institutionalization maintain their independence by providing home and community based services listed below:

  • Representative Payee Program:   Washoe County Senior Services is an appointed organization assigned by individuals 60 and older and SSA to receive Social Security and/or SSI benefits for those individuals 60 and older who cannot manage or direct someone else to manage his or her money.  The main responsibilities of a payee are to use the benefits to pay for the current and foreseeable needs of the beneficiary and properly save any benefits not needed to meet current needs.  Fee for service and other program restrictions may apply. 
  • Homemaker Program:   This service provides light housekeeping and chore assistance to individuals, age 60 and older, who are unable to perform the service due to identified functional deficiencies and because they are in need of a support system to provide essential homemaker services.

The referral process will begin once the referral has been received and processed.  Waitlists can occur due to space limitations and funding sources.
