Vaccine Update

Washoe County began receiving the COVID-19 vaccine late December 2020, and has since then administered nearly 30,000 doses with the collaboration of many healthcare partners

Following the State of Nevada’s “vaccine playbook,” the county first offered the vaccine to first-responders and health workers, followed by educators and residents 70 years and older.

Washoe County is administering vaccines as quickly as the State of Nevada provides it, and sometimes with only a few days’ notice. The Regional COVID-19 response announced last week a waiting list for seniors to join and be notified when vaccine becomes available to them.

Below is a list of organizations in Northern Nevada that are administering vaccines and how many doses have been given as of mid-January:

  • Renown Health, 12,350
  • Washoe County Health District, 10,648
  • VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (employees and Veteran patients), 2,040
  • Saint Mary’s, 2,000
  • Northern Nevada Medical Center, 1,100
  • Community Health Alliance, 420
  • City of Reno, 620
  • REMSA, 298
  • Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue: 219
  • City of Sparks, 170

Exciting news was announced this month when Smith’s and Walgreens pharmacies began to also administer vaccines. Residents can find more information below:

There is a lot of information about the COVID vaccine coming out from numerous sources, and the Regional Information Center strives to make sense of it all in one place: www.covid19washoevaccine.com.
