The Washoe County Connection • Winter 2020 Newsletter
Message From Commissioner Hartung:
Happy New Year and welcome to the roaring 20s! We have made much progress this past decade, and I look forward to the many positive changes to come in the new decade. I also want to welcome Mr. Eric Brown, our new County Manager who is now on board and making many positive changes that will take Washoe County to the next level.
I also would like to take an opportunity to remind our residents in District 4 to be extra cautious when driving in school zones and around our schools. More than 20 students have been struck by vehicles this school year. We don't want another tragedy. Please avoid any distractions while driving and remind your children to do the same while walking to/from school. Never drop off or pick up children in an unsafe manner that requires them to cross the street. Avoid blocking the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn. And always stop and yield to school children and pedestrians using crosswalks. We must make the safety of our children our highest priority in Washoe County.
And given our cold winter weather lately, make sure you dispose of ashes from the fireplace or wood burning stove properly using an ash can. You can pick up an ash can at a local hardware retailer or contact the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District while supplies last.
I hope you will take a moment to review this eNewsletter full of timely topics of the programs and initiatives that Washoe County has embarked on for this year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you.
Wishing you a healthy and prosperous New Year.
In Service,
Vaughn Hartung
Commissioner District 4
