Message From Commissioner Jung:
Happy New Year and welcome to 2020! We have made much progress this past decade, and I look forward to the many positive changes to come in the new decade.
In this issue of County Connections, I want to take a moment to highlight some of the volunteer opportunities in Washoe County. There are a wide variety of ways you can give back to your community. Whether it is supporting the County in times of disaster and emergencies, assisting foster families, supporting our libraries, or even providing legal assistance, Washoe County has several ways to give back, and even earn experience for County employment.
There are also projects that our local nonprofits can become involved, make a difference, and earn funds in the process. In fact, we just launched an Adopt a Polling Place program. The program offers up to $1,100 to organizations who support a polling location during the primary and general election.
It is the time of year when the weather is unsettled and unpredictable.
I want to remind residents in District 3 to check ditches and culverts on or around your property. While the Washoe County Roads Division regularly cleans County ditches, it is recommended that property owners also continually clear gutters and ditches to allow for proper drainage. Even a small object can cause a backup and overwhelm ditches. If stormwater starts to look threatening, you are encouraged to call 3-1-1. However, always call 9-1-1 with any life safety emergency.
I hope you will find this eNewsletter informative and helpful. Please read further to learn about some of the exciting programs and initiatives in Washoe County. In the meantime, If there is anything I can do to serve you better, do not hesitate to contact me directly at 775.560.7152.
Sincerely,
